BIOGRAPHY & ARTIST STATEMENT

Howard Danelowitz is an American painter and experimental filmmaker whose five-decade practice explores dynamic color relationships, geometric structure, and visual rhythm. Working across oil on stretched linen, relief constructions in plastic on board and canvas, his non-figurative compositions build upon an intuitive language of form, spatical tension, and subtle transparency.

Danelowitz focuses predominantly on large-scale architectural canvases- typically starting at 30" x 40" and extending to monumental oil-on-linen installations, including 110"-wide quadriptychs.  His painterly approach is deeply informed by his background as an award-winning independent filmmaker.  Having studied under master animator Jules Engel at the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts), his works carry a felt sense of motion, temporal progression, and architectural balance.

Beyond the traditional studio, Danelowitz presents Paintings Meet Interiors, an ongoing curatorial dialogue on Instagram (@danelowitzpaintings) that explores his large-scale abstract works within sophisicated architectural environents.  His practice has drawn enthusiastic acclain from Elle Decor A-List interior designers, including Amy Lau, Dan Fink, Nicole Fuller, and Fox Nathem.
